The following are the various free training programmes conducted by State & Central Govt and implemented by Department of Fisheries for the Fisherman community of Tamil Nadu. The Govt of Tamil Nadu and the Central Govt. will provide all the necessary support to training attendees who can benefit from these programmes and prosper in all walks of Life.

1. Indian Civil Service Exams Training
Name of the Training: Imparting Special training to the wards of Fishermen to join Civil services.
 Who is the target audience: Children's of fisher folks
 Application fee: Free
 No of Batches per year: 1
 Beneficiaries per batch: 20 Students
 When the Department starts accepting application: October-November every year
 Training duration: 6 Months
Description of the training:
Special Coaching will be provided to the Graduates of the Fisher community in Anna institute of Management to assist them in cracking the Indian Civil Service competitive Exams. So for under this scheme, 40 students were trained at an expenditure cost of Rs. 7.22 lakhs.

2. Indian Navy & Coast Guard Exam Training
Name of the Training: Imparting trainings to Fisher Youth to aid them in joining Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard.
 Who is the target audience: Children's of fisher folks
 Application fee: Free
 No of Batches per year: 6
 Beneficiaries per batch: 50 Students
 When the Department starts accepting application: The application will be received by the concerned Districts ADF/JDF office the around the year.
 Training duration: 3 Months
Description of the training:
Imparting Special training to the Twelfth passed Fisher Youth to assist them in joining Indian Navy and Indian coast Guard. Also to provide employment opportunities for alternative Livelihood to the Youth involved in Fishing. So for under this scheme, 145 Fishery Youths were trained at an expenditure cost of Rs. 48.62 lakhs.

3. Marine Equipments & Seaman ship Training
Name of the Training: The special training to fishermen on "Elements of Seamanship & Navigation Marine Electronic Equipment's, Operation and Maintenance of Engine"

Description of the training:
In Collaboration with CIFNET Department of Fisheries, Govt of Tamil Nadu is providing special training programme on "Elements of Seamanship & Navigation, Marine Electronic Equipment's, Operation, and Maintenance of Engine" to fishermen with experience in mechanized fishing Boats.

4. Skill Development programme by NFDB HRD
Name of the Training: Skill Development Programmes under NFDB HRD action plan in Fisheries development sector for FY 2019-20
 Who is the target audience: Fishermen & Fisherwomen

 Beneficiaries per batch: 50
 When the Department starts accepting application: The training Programme will be conducted by the concerned 13 Districts Additional Director of Fisheries/Joint Director of Fisheries on need basis.
 Training duration: 3 days
Description of the training:

NFDB conducts Skill Development Programme on Community Tank Management for enhancing fish production, cat fish culture and seed production, Re- Circulatory Aquaculture system and Marine Finfish seed rearing in ponds.

NFDB has released administrative sanction for Rs.20 lakh for conducting 16 batches training programmes under the NFDB-HRD action plan in Fisheries sector for FY 2018-19 to benefit 800 numbers of Fish farmer/ Fisher/Fisherwomen @ 50 participants per batch.

5. Skill Development programme for Marine & Inland Fisherman by TN Govt.
Name of the Training: Skill Development Programme to Marine and Inland fishermen to improve the livelihood
 Who is the target audience: Fishery Youth

 When the Department starts accepting application: The training Programme will be conducted by the concerned 13 Districts Additional Director of Fisheries/Joint Director of Fisheries on need basis
 Training duration: 3 days
Description of the training:

Imparting Skill Development Programme to Marine and Inland fishermen to improve the livelihood and pursue better employment opportunities of the fisher folk.

Marine training - The capture fisherman cum primary processing training has been completed for 23 batches of 1200 fisher youths under this scheme at the cost of Rs. 2.60 lakhs

Inland training - The capture fisherman cum primary processing training completed for 5 batches of 250 fisher youths under this scheme at the cost of Rs. 1.00 lakhs

  • 6. Sea weed culture training by NFDB
    Name of the Training: Training on seaweed culture
     Who is the target audience: Fisherwomen groups of Ramanathapuram district
     Application fee: Minimal (contact AD office for info)
     No of Batches per year: 30
     Beneficiaries per batch: 50
     When the Department starts accepting application: The beneficiaries will be selected by the AD offices in Ramanathapuram district.
     Training duration: 3 days
    Description of the training:

    Training will be provided on Seaweed culture technologies to be taken up by fisherwomen beneficiaries of Ramanathapuram district under NFDB funding assistance at a total amount of Rs. 25.50 lakh. Under 1st phase 750 fisherwomen beneficiaries have been trained.

    7. Inland Fish culture training under Tamil Nadu Irrigated Agriculture Modernization Project (TNIAMP)
    Name of the Training: Awareness on Inland Fish Culture for TN-IAM project beneficiaries.
     Who is the target audience: Farmers/Inland Fish Culturists.
     Application fee: Free
     No of Batches per year: One Batch/ District /year
     Beneficiaries per batch: As per incoming request
     When the Department starts accepting application: Round the year
     Training duration: 1 day ( 3 days in future by TNJFU)
    Description of the training:

    The beneficiaries engaging in Aquaculture in Farm pond, Cage rearing of fish seed, Earthen fish seed rearing cum culture farm, Cage farming of fish and Fish culture in irrigation tanks under TN-IAM project are mostly agriculture farmers/ Water User Association members. So far more than 526 beneficiaries have been trained under this programme at a cost of Rs 3.008 Lakh.

    8. Get Trained & Develop Skills in Fisheries

    Dearness Allowance (DA) Rs. 500/ per trainee/ day (i) Training, skill development & capacity building programmes for fish farmers & fishers and other stakeholders shall be carried through State Governments, UTs, Central Government Organizations/ Institutions such as KVKs, ICAR Institutes, ATMAs, ATARIs, Fisheries Institutes, State/ UT owned organizations, State agriculture/ veterinary/fishery Universities, fisheries federations, corporations etc.
    (ii) The training batch shall not be less than 50 (fifty) Trainees per batch.
    (iii) Training organization shall submit self contained proposal indicating, details of trainees, training courses, venue,
    infrastructure facilities available for the purpose, duration of the training programme, availability of boarding and lodging facilities, details of resource persons, anticipated
    outputs etc.
    (iv) Preferably, the trainees shall be identified by the respective State Governments/UTs. The Central Government shall also identify the trainees in consultation (if need be)
    with the concerned State Governments/ UT.
